There are moments when the ground suddenly gives way. When what was obvious – the work, the routines, the role in the family and in society – no longer bears.

The performance When Baba Falls in the Pool is at 11:47 p.m . starts right then.

The daughter tries to understand what happened to Baba, her father. He who has worked so hard to find his place in the new country. Force majeure, they wrote.

Experience became a burden, age an obstacle.

Shame drives him to keep it a secret from his family.

Baba stepped into a world he does not belong to. He ended up at a pool party with society’s elite. For the guests, he was a feature in the backstage of the party, a fun content to share on Instagram. For Baba, it was a way to save the family. Instead, it turned him into an image that cannot be erased.

In her quest to understand, the daughter begins to remember. Childhood. The relationship with his father. Their roots.

The small and big moments that have shaped their lives together.

When Baba Falls in the Pool at 11:47 p.m. depicts a changing working life, a society where everything
fall through the cracks and where dignity risks being lost when security
disappears.

The play is written by Astrid Menasanch Tobieson and depicts themes such as identity, belonging and shame.

Performed in Swedish. The performance is subtitled in Finnish, Swedish and English via the Subtitle Mobile mobile application.

Premiere 29.10.2026 at Lilla Teatern, Yrjönkatu 30, Helsinki. Performance period at Wasa Theatre 13.1 – 2.2.2027 and at Åbo Svenska Teater 11.2 -20.3.2027.

*****

Sometimes the ground suddenly fails from under your feet. When what has seemed self-evident – work, routines, role in the family and society – no longer pays off.
